Professor  Jan Labuda has been awarded the status of Emeritus Fellow in Division V. This 2023 appointment reflects his standing as a scientist and continuing service to the division and to the Union.

Emeritus Professor Jan Labuda occupied the Institute of Analytical Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology of Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia, since finishing his PhD study in 1978 and in the period of 2009 to 2019 he was director of this Institute. His teaching and research interests are in general analytical chemistry, electrochemical and bioanalytical methods of analysis, electrochemical sensors and biosensors, analytical use of nanomaterials. He published 165 original and review journal papers with Science Citation Index >3000 and Hirsch index 31. He was also active as head assessor for testing laboratories of the Slovak National Accreditation Service. He was active chair of the Analytical Chemistry Group of the Slovak Chemical Society, delegate of the Slovak Chemical Society at the Division of Analytical Chemistry of European Chemical Society (DAC-EuChemS) in 1999-2014 and received several awards including Honorary member of the Slovak Chemical Society.

Jan was recruited to IUPAC by division member Wlodek Kutner in 2006 and became Titular Member, Vice-President, President and Past President of the Analytical Chemistry Division (ACD), and presently he is the Slovak National Representative. He is ACD representative to the Committee on Chemistry and Industry (COCI) and ACD liaison person to DAC-EuChemS. He has been associated with 8 IUPAC projects, two of which are on-going. He is IUPAC contact person for two chapters of the new IUPAC Orange Book (Compendium of Terminology in Analytical Chemistry) on Electroanalytical chemistry and Bioanalytical chemistry.
